Hair Spray T-shirt:
Hairspray is a musical comedy film that was set in 1962 Baltimore. I wanted to create designs inspired by the film, which has various bold and fun iconic images. I used the well-known name of the Hairspray’s song “Good Morning Baltimore” as the main typography of my design. Also, I wanted to create a graphic that was inspired by women’s hairstyles from the 1960s.
Old Bay T-shirt:
I wanted to create a design inspired by Old Bay, which is a popular seasoning that was produced in Maryland. I liked the design on the seasoning box that feels very vintage, yet bold and fun. I liked the bold typography used on the box and also the bright colors.
Since Old Bay is so iconic in Baltimore, I decided to chage my design to keep the same iconic quality, yet emphasize on that bold graphic it already has. I gave Old Bay some pop art treatment to enhance the graphic and iconic quality of the designs.
I experimented with various colors to make sure that each box has its unique and fun quality.
UTZ Girl and Natty Boh T-shirt:
I chose two iconic figures from the food brands–UTZ girl and Natty Boh. I wanted to tweak the original design by giving both characters some fun elements that go well with their original designs. I gave both characters a clean, matching shirts with a bow tie. Also, I made Natty Boh to hold a mustache on a stick and UTZ girl to hold a make up brush for the red blush on her cheeks.
